the pre-production

Today we were set the task of making a story board, between a group of 4 we had to produce around four shots each in a selected area of the clip.
We were given the story plot of - 'some one walking down a corridor, opening a door, sitting down and having a conversation'. We were also told that we had to include the following 7 shots...
  1. Long Shot
  2. Medium Shot
  3. Shot Reverse Shot
  4. 180° Rule
  5. Close Up
  6. Extreme Close Up
  7. Action
To begin with, we needed to split the sections up between the four of us, these being, the door, the person walking down the corridor, the person already in the empty room, and finally someone had to do the dialogue. Once we had all sorted who was doing what, we were told that we each needed to do four shots for our section. I found this fairly easy for my section, which was the person already in the empty room, using an inital long shot looking down at the late interviewee from a high angle. I then had the same shot, but reversed looking up at the interviewer, making him look the powerful one. I then had a medium tracking shot, with the camera following theinterviewee up to the desk alongside the interviewer, I used this shot to bring a little tension to the scene, and to make the walk up to the desk seem long, and a nerve-wracking experience.
My final shot was a close up of the two men, beginning the interview.
Understandably, Max's job, being the door scene, was slightly trickier so we all helped him a bit with that, and as a team came to a conclusion on what to do.
Overall, although my storyboard may not of been the most in detail one ever, I think it gave enough information to the reader, in order to create the shot, it also gave shot durations, which most people had not done.

We were then right at the end of the lesson, informed that when it came to later filming the scene, that we would not be filming our own story boards, and in fact other members of the classes. This left our group a little disapointed as we thought we had created a good idea for our short film, however we were looking forward to the challenge of working with someone else's storyboard.
