There were 6 directors in all Wes Anderson, Shynola, Hammer and Tongs, Anton Cobijn, Spike Jonze and Michel Goundry. In our group, [Me, George, and Tom] we focussed on Hammer And Tongs.
Therefore starting off, here's some information on
Hammer And Tongs:
- They are a pairing of Garth Jennings and Nick Goldsmith,
- Began producing music videos, for bands such as Radiohead, Vampire Weekend and Hot Chip
- They then went onto direct films, such as Hitchiker's guide to the galaxy and Son Of Rambow
Here is an example of their work
We also looked at the 5 directors, but they were presented to us by the other groups here's some information on them,
Wes Anderson:
- Born in Texas
- Met up with Owen Wilson at uni, and then went on to write with him, and now casts him in a lot of his films
- Focuses on broken families
- Also does adverts for example he did an American Express advert which he directed and starred in
- Loves to have symmetry in his shots
- Films he has directed - Fantastic Mr Fox, & The Royal Tenenbaums
- His audience are fairly wealthy, easy going. They're generally wealthy
- French,
- Failed artist
- joined a band in iniversity as the drummer, however, he made their videos for them
- Kanye West
- Paul McCartney
- Mia Doi Todd
- The Science Of Sleep
- Be Kind Rewind
Shynola:
This is the name of a group of 4 men, who all met in 1994 at the Kent Institue Of Art & Design. The actual name comes from a reference to the shoe polish from the early 1900s Shinola. They now deal with mostly animations.
They have also gone on to produce music videos for bands such as Radiohead and Coldplay.
Spike Jonze
- Directs and produces films
- Best known for Jackass, which audience is obviously lads, with a slapstick sense of humour.
- Has previously won Oscars and also Golden Globes
- We were shown an advert he directed, for GAP clothing company, which was rather over the top, like Jackass, and different to most other adverts.
Anton Corbijn
- born in holland 1955
- trained as a photographer
- he has worked with Coldplay, Nivarna, Joy Division, and also U2
- His theme is also nearly always black and white, and fairly bleak and depressing.
