Merlin Trailer - Male Gender Representation

What representations of gender are constructed by the extract through the use of: mise en scene, editing , use of camera, sound?

The first person we see in the trailer is Merlin himself. This tells the audience immediately
that the programme is going to be about him and his life. We are also shown caves and Merlin exploring himself, this sets the scene as this would make people think of a much older time, perhaps when people were hunting for food to survive. From all this you would assume that the audience would be mostly male.

Throughout the trailer the sounds that are put over the top are either men's voices, cries in battle & then also pieces of music that would make you feel inspired.  The fact that all of these things are very manly things, and have nothing to do with women perhaps shows that it is set in a time where women were still very much there to look after the men when they were needed, but shouldn't have their own life as such. If however you listen to all of the clip in detail you hear a woman's voice saying "Merlin" in a mysterious way. This could be  possibly relating to women being seen as evil, and maybe even witches.

Camera angles in the trailer also show men in a certain way for example the king [0:34] at this point the camera is looking up at the king making him appear big and powerful. It then goes onto zoom in on the King showing that he is infact, a very powerful man and should be well respected.
